I bought this as a gift for my 6 year old nephew who loves animals. It was a big hit! He loved all of the photos and facts and spent most of the day going through it and showing others the strange animals he found. I had a chance to look through it and think it works well for younger kids because there are tons of pictures and each has a small paragraph (or less) about the animal. I think it's a good way to get kids interested in the world around them. My nephew found many animals and places he wanted to learn more about.

Purchased it for a child's 5th birthday. All the kids loved it and couldn't put it down. I thought they were going to rip it from tugging to take turns to flip through it. We later found us, adults, having a discussion about whales and ended up referencing the book and acting like the kids tugging at it and passing it around. Great reference book for a beginner to the animal kingdom on correctly understanding what all the classifications are, what animals fall under each classification, their habitat, geographic location, and feeding. The pictures are beautiful as well.

my 5 year old grandson loves animals, and already knew a lot - about A LOT - of them. this encyclopedia has been an amazing trove of new information for him. it became his new, favorite "bed time story" for weeks.the photographs of the animals are wonderful, and explanations about the animals were at a level that didn't talk down to him; rather, it elevated his language.I highly recommend this book for any child who loves animals.

This book is gorgeous. Enough pictures some reading for a 7 year old, and room for growth for older kids as there is a lot of detailed reading content and animal information. This is the best of the best for animal encyclopedias (and I have shopped around). If you have an animal lover ages 7-12 i think this would be perfect.

Love the pics but the information is scanty. We were looking for more comprehensiv details of the animals

I was disappointed with the layout and coloration. It simply is NOT a good clean, uncluttered layout and the coloration falls short.

My 5 year old grandson loves this book. He will sit with anyone who will listen and read it to you for hours. He got the book at age 4, and was fascinated with all the facts and photos. It actually helped him to learn to read. When he accidentaly left it out in the rain he was heart broken. I had to purchase another one for him. Fantastic learning tool for young minds! No iPhone needed!

I bought this for my 11 year old Granddaughter for Christmas. The description on the Amazon site made it sound a bit more "adult friendly" than it really is. It does have good information on many many species of animals but it is geared for children. I was hoping it was more "encyclopedia" like, as she reads at an adult level. I'd say for a 7-10 year old this is a good book, but not for older than that.
