A pesar de que la produccion literaria de Manuel Scorza tuvo como centro vital, como tema unico e indiscutible, a su pais natal, Peru, su labor fue mas reconocida fuera de esas fronteras, y ""Redoble por Rancas"" tuvo un fulgurante exito europeo. La novela denuncia explicitamente los abusos sufridos por las comunidades campesinas de los Andes Centrales, de mayoria indigena, y su lucha contra la explotacion y la injusticia. Sin embargo, aunque la obra de Scorza responde a una hermeneutica que dialoga con la tradicion literaria peruana, representada por el indigenismo, trasciende sus limites y convenciones, y huye de esa etiqueta en un proceso constante y paulatino que se mueve en dos niveles.
